18 bag first class at Oye Ekiti varsity, as Atta Igala is installed Chancellor

Eighteen graduands on Saturday bagged first class honours in their various courses at the maiden convocation of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Speaking on the occasion, graced by eminent personalities from far and near, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, said he would strive to make the university become not only a model but a self-sustaining institution of learning.

Soremekun said the university, which was established barely six years ago, was currently rated by the National Universities Commission as the 14th best among the over 100 universities in the country.

According to him the graduands being turned out were the type that could stand and survive on their own without having to search endlessly for white collar jobs that are not readily available.

He enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the institution through good behaviours and proof of academic know-how garnered from the institution.

NAN reports that one of the highlights of the occasion included the award of honorary doctorates on three retired secondary school principals and a computer scholar.

The recipients included 100-year-old Chief Adepoju Akomolafe, 89-year-old Chief Francis Daramola and Efunjoke Coker, while the fourth honoree is an ICT expert, Dr. Babatope Agbeyo.

The Attah of Igala and Permanent Chairman of the Kogi State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Michael Idakwo, was also formally installed as the pioneer Chancellor of the university.

The new chancellor expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the honour done him and the entire Kogi state people.

Idakwo promised to use his influence to accelerate the university’s infrastructural development.

NAN reports that a total of 504 graduands cutting across 2014/2015 and

2015/2016 academic sessions received their first degrees while engineering graduands were inducted into their professional bodies.

A breakdown shows that for the 2014/2015 session, eight students bagged First Class honours; 69 Second Class Upper ; 79 Second Class Lower; Third Class (8) and Pass (1).

For the 2015/2016 session: First Class (10); Second Class Upper (155); Second Class Lower (134) and Third Class 40.

May Day: Workers driving economy – Saraki

President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, has described Nigerian workers as “the life blood and driving force” of the country’s development due to their invaluable contributions.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja to mark the 2017 Workers’ Day celebration, Saraki lauded the resilience and commitment of workers in both the formal and informal sectors, describing their contributions to the economy as priceless.

He said, “From the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises that contribute over 47 per cent to our Gross Domestic Product to the civil servants who are the driving force behind our government, all the way to the unregistered business owners who work to make a living for themselves and their families, every Nigerian worker in both the formal and informal sectors makes a priceless contribution to the sustainability of our nation.

“As we mark this year’s Workers’ Day, all Nigerian workers should be proud that their significant contributions keep this nation moving forward — as they are the lifeblood of our country, an integral part of the fabric that makes up our society.”

Saraki also said the Senate would continue to work towards establishing and enhancing all legislations that would guarantee the safety and well-being of Nigerian workers. He also emphasised the need for governments across all levels and participants in the private sector to work towards ensuring that “our workers receive their salaries and pensions as and when due while necessary periodic training should be availed them to make workers competitive in a changing world.”

Lawyer sues EFCC over Osborne Tower’s N13 billion

An activist lawyer, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, has sued the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission urging the court to suspend action on the forfeiture application filed by the agency in respect of the cash sums of $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 recovered from an apartment in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

Ogungbeje, who sued the EFCC at the Federal High Court in Lagos, urged the court not to order the forfeiture of the funds to the Federal Government until the question of the ownership of the funds had been resolved.

He noted that there were claims and counter-claims as to ownership of the money by the Rivers State Government and the National Intelligence Agency.

The lawyer said it would be in the interest of justice for the court to suspend action on the forfeiture proceedings pending the outcome of findings by panel headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

The EFCC had on April 13 secured an interim order temporarily forfeiting the money, recovered from No.16, Osborne Road, Osborne Towers, Flat 7B, to the Federal Government.

Justice Muslim Hassan, who made the temporary forfeiture order, had adjourned till May 5, 2017 for anyone interested in the funds to show up before him to show cause why the money should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government

But Ogungbeje, in his motion on notice, is praying the court for an order, directing the EFCC to furnish the court with a report of its preliminary or final investigation on the source of the monies, the owner, and how the currencies got into the building.

The lawyer wants the court to compel the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission and the police to immediately begin a thorough investigation of the recovered money.

“This honourable court has the inherent jurisdiction under Section 6 (6)(b) of the Constitution to order and direct thorough investigation of the sources of the monies, their owners, the owners of the Osborne Towers where the monies were found and how they got into the building.

“A thorough and transparent investigation of the monies will strengthen the anti-corruption crusade.

“Nigerians are interested in the sources, owners of the monies, owners of the building and how the monies got into Osborne Residential apartment,” the lawyer said.

He argued that the EFCC would not be prejudiced if his prayers were granted by the court.

The court has yet to fix a date to hear the suit.

Man United injuries are no excuse in run-in – Carrick

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has said his side’s injury problems are no excuse between now and the end of the season.

Sunday’s home game against relegation-threatened Swansea is United’s ninth in April and will kick off at midday despite the Manchester derby having finished at close to 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are all injured, while Marouane Fellaini is serving a three-game suspension after headbutting City’s Sergio Aguero.

The players still fit and available face another seven matches in 22 days — or eight in 25 if they reach the Europa League final — and Carrick is focused on the job at hand.

“It’s not ideal,” the midfielder told MUTV. “We’ll have to be ready for Sunday. It’s what we do and it’s what we’re here for. It is no excuse.

“Credit to the boys. It’s never easy when you’ve got injuries, especially to key players. Everyone’s done a terrific job and shown how important the squad is.”

Matteo Darmian, who has returned to a starting role as others have dropped out, echoed Carrick’s message.

“We haven’t got too much time for recovery and to prepare for the [Swansea] game but, from now until the end of the season, we play every few days so we have to be ready,” he said.

“Everyone is important so we have to be focused, play on Sunday and win.”

United missed the chance to overtake City with their 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium, but Carrick is still confident the fight is on.

“It’s a good point and it’s a point gained on Liverpool,” he said. “There was a lot going into this game including the rivalry. It was make or break for us and for City.

“We’ve got some tough games to play and we’re in a better position now than we were at the start of the night. We can take the positives from it.”

Boko Haram: 600 teachers killed, 1,200 schools closed in Lake Chad region – UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Funds, UNICEF, has said that no fewer than 600 school teachers have lost their lives in the Lake Chad region ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency.

The UN agency, in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday, revealed that the agency is targeting 158,900 Children to benefit from the training program, which is expected to run until the end of the year.

The statement said, schools are particularly vulnerable to bombings, attacks, and abductions by the insurgents but many lacked detailed safety plans.

“Boko Haram, whose name in the Hausa language means ‘Western Education is Forbidden’, has killed more than 600 teachers and forced over 1,200 schools to close during its eight-year insurgency in Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad.

“Three years ago, the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls by the jihadist group in Chibok in northeastern Nigeria sparked global outrage.

“The training program, run in partnership with the European Union, encourages teachers to evaluate the risks facing their schools and helps them develop action plans so that students and teachers know what to do in case of emergency.

“Ensuring access to education for crisis-affected children is important, however opening schools is not enough,” said Marie-Pierre Poirier, UNICEF’s regional director for West and Central Africa said in the statement.

“Children and teachers need to be equipped with knowledge and skills, to be prepared and able to mitigate the effects of something dangerous happening around the school premises,” she added.

UNICEF spokesman, Patrick Rose said, “Some of the plans include appointing student leaders, designating assembly points and practicing emergency evacuation techniques. Some 1,600 teachers have been trained so far.

“The training also includes techniques for providing traumatized children with psychological support and making schools feel like a safe place in the midst of the chaos.

“Teachers learn games that can have a healing effect, and how to incorporate lessons about looking after each other into the children’s activities.”

‘Buhari should appoint Ndigbo as SGF’

Political leaders from the South-East have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to consider south east for the post of Secretary to the Federal Government.

The is following the suspension of the incumbent SGF, David Babachir Lawal.

According to them, the call became imperative in order to reverse the view that the administration was marginalizing the zone.

Frontline Igbo leader and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, said Buhari should consider Ndigbo for the position.

“If you look at the whole thing that they are doing, it appears as if people don’t exist in the South East.

“We have people who are qualified to hold this position in the APC. They should look at our people in the APC and appoint one of them.”

A former governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, is also of the view that the position should naturally be conceded to the South East.

His words: “Nigeria has six principal protocol offices. The North West has the President; the South West has the Vice-President; the Senate President is from the North Central; so are other zones except the South East.

“Our constitution prescribes federal character, but the South East zone is conspicuously absent, blatantly removed from these positions. The position should automatically come to the South East.”

He added, “Usually, anyone who should be the SGF is effectively someone who knows where the switches in government are, so that if anybody switches on, he switches off.

“That was why, in the past, it was only retired permanent secretaries that qualified to be made SGF. Somebody who has worked as a governor is also qualified because he has worked with so many permanent secretaries.”

But he said Ohanaeze will not lobby the presidency for the position to come to the zone, stressing: “I am not interested in lobbying anybody to recognize the zone. The president is supposed to be the father of the whole country.

“He has sworn to the constitution and I expect him to respect his oath of office,” he said on Saturday.

Trump and Xi in “constant touch” as tensions rise

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump have been in “constant touch”, Beijing said Friday, referring to the budding friendship between the two heads of state who began their relationship at loggerheads.

Though Trump’s election campaign was marked with acerbic denouncements of Beijing’s “rape” of the US economy, the billionaire politician has lately dropped his anti-China bombast in the hopes of wooing the country into a harder stance against its ally Pyongyang.

Since their first face-to-face meeting in Florida earlier this month, the two presidents “have been in constant touch with each other, exchanging views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Friday, adding:

“This is good for the two countries and also for the whole world.”

Their newfound closeness comes as Trump has made North Korea his top foreign policy priority, with the US administration issuing weeks of warnings that it will no longer tolerate Pyongyang’s missile launches and nuclear tests.

Beijing has repeatedly called for a return to talks on denuclearisation but has long opposed dramatic action against the North, fearing the regime’s collapse would send a flood of refugees across its borders and leave the US military on its doorstep.

The US is expected to push for a tougher Chinese response on Friday at a UN Security Council meeting chaired by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and attended by Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi.

But when asked whether China would give, Geng said that “dialogue and consultation is the only viable way out” of the rising crisis.

“It’s not China who has been escalating tensions, so the key to resolving this issue is not in our hands,” he said.

President Buhari absent from Friday Jumat prayer

President Muhammadu Buhari did not attend today’s congregational Friday prayer at the Aso Rock Mosque.

Mr. Buhari has been observing the weekly prayer at the mosque located behind his office since his return from medical vacation in the UK.

Staff of the Aso Villa also confirmed the president was indoors and did not go to any other mosque for the ‘Jumat’ prayer.

He was also absent from the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Wednesday raising concerns over his state of health.

However, Mr. Buhari on Thursday assured Nigerians that despite insinuations about his alleged poor health, there is no need for apprehension.

The president’s stance was contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, explaining why he had been out of public glare for a while.

“President Buhari’s absence at the Federal Executive Council meeting of Wednesday, April 26, was a last-minute decision; otherwise, the cabinet and the public might have been alerted in advance.

“As eager as he is to be up and about, the President’s doctors have advised on his taking things slowly, as he fully recovers from the long period of treatment in the United Kingdom some weeks ago.

“President Buhari himself, on his return to the country, made Nigerians aware of the state of his health while he was in London. Full recovery is sometimes a slow process, requiring periods of rest and relaxation, as the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, intimated in his press briefing after the FEC meeting on Wednesday,” Mr. Shehu said.

Despite the statement, Mr. Buhari’s absence from the Friday Jumat prayer will only add more speculations to his health status. Although not an essential part of his work as president, Mr. Buhari has tried to ensure he prays the Friday prayer in congregation as expected of devout Muslims.

Earlier on Friday, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka asked Mr. Buhari to disclose his true health status to Nigerians.

“Why is the president hiding his state of health? He’s supposed to understand he’s public property,” Mr. Soyinka said.

How Customs credited Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia’s company account with N12m – witness

The fifth prosecution witness for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Omale Ujah, on Friday narrated to a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja how he was instructed sometime in 2014 to pay N12m into the account of a company, Nigel and Colive limited, belonging to Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia.

Ujah, an Assistant Controller of Customs, said this while testifying against Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, a serving Federal High Court judge, who is being tried for alleged bribery and unlawful enrichment.

Led in evidence by the prosecutor, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, Ujah, told the court that the N12m payment was at the instruction of one Musa Tahir, who was the Deputy Controller-General of Customs.

‎“In the course of my duty in 2014, the Deputy Controller-General that I was working with, Musa Tahir, came down from the office of the Controller-General of Customs and gave me the account number of Nigel and Colive limited, ‎saying that the CGC said we should liase with 12 commands and they should pay N1m each to my account and I should transfer the whole sum to Nigel and Colive Limited.

“And that instruction was carried out,” Ujah said.

He added that he paid the money in three trenches of N4m, N3m and N5m, adding, however, that he was not aware of any services rendered by Nigel and Colive Limited to the Nigeria Customs Service.

Under cross-examination by Ofili-Ajumogobia’s counsel, Chief Robert Clark (SAN), Ujah said in the Customs, officers were meant to obey the last order and were not trained to ask questions, so he could not ask what the money was meant for.

Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia is standing trial alongside a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Godwin Obla, who was accused of bribing her with N5m.

Also on Friday, the anti-graft agency called on its sixth witness, Mr. Robinson Emafidon, the Head of Regulatory Liason in the United Bank of Africa.

Emafidon told the court that his bank got a letter from the EFCC asking them to provide the statement of account of Obla.

“Sometimes in November, 2016,we received a letter from the EFCC asking us to provide them the account opening documents and statement of account regarding the subject customer.

“In line with my duties, I got copies of those documents from the archive and printed the account statement which were entries made as transactions of account.

“I certified them as true copy with a certificate and I forwarded them with a letter to the EFCC,” Emafidon said.

Emafidon confirmed to the court from the statement of account that the sum of N5m was paid to Nigel and Colive Limited.

Under cross-examination by Clark, Emafidon said he did not know if the transfer was in respect of any criminal case.

He stated further under cross-examination by Obla’s lawyer, Mr. Ferdinard Orbih (SAN), that he was not personally involved in the inflow and outflow of the transaction.

Earlier at the resumed proceedings on Friday, Clark informed the presiding judge, Justice Hakeem Oshodi, that he wanted to withdraw the application before the court challenging the jurisdiction of the court and Justice Oshodi Consequently struck out the application.

German parliament approves partial ban on full-face veil

Germany’s lower house of parliament agreed to a draft law on Thursday which introduced a raft of security measures including a partial ban on civil servants, judges and soldiers in Germany from wearing full-face veils at work.

The move comes after Chancellor Angela Merkel called in December for a ban on full-face Muslim veils “wherever legally possible”.

There are five months to go before a federal election, and her conservatives lost some support to the anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany during the migrant crisis.

More than a million migrants, many of them Muslims from the Middle East, have arrived in Germany over the last two years, and concerns about integration are widespread.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere told the parliament deputies that the draft law is to make an important contribution to clear communication of values and the limits of tolerance to other cultures.

“The draft law, of course, complies with all the requirements of the Federal Constitutional Court’s judgement, but further strengthens the tasks,” he told the German parliament on Thursday.

De Maiziere also underlined that the new draft law would pave the way for a modern police IT infrastructure.

“The new system makes it possible to gather and merge people- and event-related data, and to better understand connections. Which is better for our security, more effective for the police, and at the same time it does not mean less data-protection,” he said.

In February, the southern state of Bavaria, ruled by the Christian Social Union – the Bavarian sister party to Merkel’s conservatives – said it would ban the full-face veil in schools, universities, government workplaces and polling stations.

Joshua at his heaviest for Klitschko clash

Anthony Joshua weighed in at a career-heaviest for his eagerly anticipated showdown against Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday.

The Briton tipped the scales at 17 stones 12lbs 2oz (113.4 kg) ahead of facing Klitschko for two versions of the world heavyweight title in front of 90,000 spectators at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Joshua, 27, was ten pounds heavier than Klitschko, who tipped the scales at 17 stones 2lb 6oz at Friday’s weigh-in at nearby Wembley Arena, with a crowd of 2,000 watching proceedings.

Klitschko (64-4 53 KOs), 41, was five pounds lighter than he was for his previous fight 17 months ago when he lost a surprise points decision to Joshua’s fellow Briton Tyson Fury.

The Ukrainian, who was his lightest since 2009, can win back two of the three titles he lost to Fury by beating Joshua, who has stopped all 18 professional opponents since turning professional after his 2012 Olympic gold medal triumph.

Thursday saw Klitschko try to unsettle his opponent by suggesting Joshua’s physique was like that of an over-muscled and immobile body-builder.

“I’ve never seen AJ (Joshua) as big as he is right now. He is as big as Arnold Schwarzenegger at his best,” said Klitschko. “He’s a puncher. I’m a boxer that can punch.”

– ‘Beat Klitschko, don’t hate him’ –

But Joshua refused to rise to the bait and on Friday he would not be drawn when asked about how he would win.

“It depends if I see an opportunity,” the 27-year-old Joshua said about the possibility of a knockout.

“My main focus is to focus round by round, for 12 rounds. I don’t hate Klitschko, I just want to beat Klitschko.

“I’ve been switched on since December 10, my last fight. All I have to do is focus on this fight and making it as easy as possible.

“When you are competing it’s tunnel vision. Even though there are beautiful people, I have to keep tunnel vision.”

Klitschko, who has had 50 more professional fights than Joshua, hopes his superior experience will see him become world heavyweight champion for the third time.

“I just have this feeling — this is my night,” said Klitschko, who turned professional after winning gold at the 1996 Olympics.

“It’s a big step for AJ. He hasn’t fought this type of quality of fighter yet. It’s going to be challenging for him — but challenging for me as well.”

Joshua will make a third defence of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) world heavyweight title, with the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) belt also on the line.

Lennox Lewis, the last Briton to hold two versions of the world heavyweight titles in 2002, believes Joshua will prevail.

“There are still unanswered questions with Joshua, but Joshua (to win) early,” said Lewis.

Deontay Wilder, the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion, was present at the weigh-in and the American could face the winner of Saturday’s bout in the next 12 months.

“A victory for Joshua would be better because people want to see the Joshua fight,” Wilder told reporters.

“But I’m proud of both guys, this is exciting, I had to be here.

“It was not as if Fury beat Klitschko up. He didn’t take a beat down, he should be fresh. We will see if age plays a big factor.”

Manchester United to honour electrocuted Nigerians against Swansea

Manchester United have confirmed that the electrocuted Nigerian fans will be remembered at the Old Trafford when they host Swansea in a league fixture on Sunday

Tragedy struck during the Red Devils’ Europa League encounter as Anderlecht as the football fans were electrocuted at Nyagasang, Calabar.

They had gathered at the popular viewing centre when a transformer nearby exploded twice – with a high tension wire dropping on the structure built with zinc.

However, the club has announced that against the Swans, Jose Mourinho’s men will wear black armbands to pay tribute to the victims of the tragedy.

”The #MUFC players will wear black armbands on Sunday in memory of the seven fans who lost their lives recently in Calabar, Nigeria,” the club tweeted.

United who played a 0-0 draw against Manchester City on Wednesday need a win against Paul Clement’s men to boost their chances of qualifying for next season’s Uefa Champions League.

They are fifth on the log with 64 points after 33 games. Swansea are in the relegation zone with 31 points after 34 outings.

Liberia tests mystery illness after 11 unexplained deaths

Liberia said Friday that samples from people struck down by a mystery illness are being tested abroad after 11 unexplained deaths, though Ebola has been ruled out.

The unidentified illness has affected 19 people in Greenville, southeastern Liberia, who began showing symptoms on April 24, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed.

Eleven people died in the community and seven more have been hospitalised since then, the WHO said in Geneva, with one more discharged.

Liberia’s health ministry and the WHO have confirmed the disease is not Ebola, the hemorrhagic fever that killed thousands in a recent west African epidemic, despite some similar symptoms.

“We have taken blood samples, and what we are going to do is to send this sample out of the country to determine what is really wrong with them,” health ministry spokesman Sorbor George told AFP.

George was only able to confirm nine deaths.

“We are under pressure from the families who want to know what is wrong,” he added. “What we did first was to run the Ebola test. All were negative. So we are sure that it is not Ebola.”

A WHO briefing in Geneva said the illness caused fever, vomiting, headache and diarrhoea, and a rapid response team has been deployed to investigate a potential link among the cases who attended the funeral of a religious leader.

The police are assisting with investigations, the spokesman said.

The outbreak of Ebola in west Africa began in December 2013 and of three countries affected it hit Liberia hardest. More than 29,000 were infected, estimates said, and a third of those died.

Many Ebola survivors continue to suffer high levels of shame and discrimination, exacerbated by findings that the virus can stay in some parts of the body for at least nine months after a patient has recovered.

US announces additional $30 million aid for Northeast Nigeria

The United States has announced an additional $30m as humanitarian aid for the people of the North East.

The US Embassy said in statement on Friday that the additional funding would bring the total U.S. humanitarian contribution in Nigeria to more than $298m since October 2015.

The funding, according to it, is in response to dire humanitarian crisis in the North East as a result of years of brutality by Boko Haram and other militant groups.

“This new funding will support the UN World Food Programme in Nigeria, which is providing critical food assistance, nutrition support, and vouchers that can be used to buy food where local markets are functional,” the statement read in part.

“This assistance is also helping communities return to their agricultural livelihoods where security allows.”

According to the U.S., humanitarian efforts are vital in the North East where approximately 8.5 million people require assistance, including 5.2 million people who need emergency food assistance, and more than 1.7 million people who are displaced.

It restated its commitment to working with the Government of Nigeria and other donors to provide humanitarian assistance to avert famine and support vulnerable communities.

Patience Jonathan made her husband lose 2015 election – Sen. Mark

The immediate past Senate President, David Mark, has revealed that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan lost the support of key members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who discreetly worked against his re-election due to the suspicious nature of his wife, Patience Jonathan.

Mark’s claim was contained in the book, ‘Against the Run of Play’ written by the Chairman ThisDay Board of Editors and former Presidential spokesperson, Olusegun Adeniyi.

In the book, the former Senate President alleged that both Jonathan and his wife turned former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Governor of Sokoto State into a political foe.

Jonathan’s relationship with Tambuwal was said to have been frosty, a situation that eventually led to his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the then opposition and now current ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC.

Reacting to the relationship, Mark said he tried to mend things between the duo but Tambuwal was still looked upon with suspicion.

According to Mark, “I took him (Tambuwal) and Emeka (Ihedioha) to the president for a meeting where they gave assurances that they would cooperate and work with the government. But there was always a concern from the Jonathan camp that Tambuwal was an ambitious politician,” he said.

The former senate president also said that the former first lady had fears that he was nursing a presidential ambition as well.

“I guess she (Patience) had the same fear about me even but she never said it to my face. She once accosted Senator Joy Emordi to say, ‘Joy, I hear you are the manager of David Mark Presidential Campaign Organisation,’ which was a baseless accusation.

“I had to meet the president to clarify issues with him. So, I would say it was President Jonathan and his wife who radicalized Tambuwal and turned him into a political foe.”

Don identifies factors responsible for students’mass failure in mathematics

Prof. Medinat Salman of the Department of Science Education, University of Ilorin, has identified inadequate understanding of Mathematics language as one of the major factors responsible for mass failures of the subject in examinations.

Salman made the observation in Ilorin on Friday while presenting a paper entitled “Language and Problem Solving: The Mathematics Education Link”, at the 168th Inaugural Lecture of the university.

According to her, other factors are lack of frequent practice, poor background on the subject, as well as influence of parents on child’s career choice.

Salman , who is a mathematics lecturer in the university, urged mathematics teachers to always create a friendly atmosphere for learners to develop interest.

She advised teachers to always simplify technical terms that might constitute barriers to students’ understanding of topics in mathematics.

“It is imperative for teachers of mathematics to adopt the use of effective instructional strategies that will enhance and encourage the students to meaningfully acquire the knowledge of mathematics,” she said.

The Don also urged mathematics textbooks authors to clearly suggest the patterns considered appropriate to teach each topic.

Salman advised students to imbibe the culture of readiness and willingness to learn.

We’ve enough dollars for end users – Central bank

The Bankers Committee of the Central Bank on Thursday declared that there was adequate stock of foreign exchange to sustain the spate of dollar sales to various segments of forex market.

The regulator stressed that it was in possession of adequate stock of dollars to ensure that it met the demands of all genuine bank customers in the country.

The Director, Banking Supervision, CBN, Ahmed Abdullahi, said this at a press briefing held along some chief executive officers of banks shortly after the committee’s meeting in Lagos.

Abdullahi said, “The recent development in the forex market has led to prices turning downwards and convergence of rates and the positive effect of that on the economy. We have seen inflation trending downwards. There is a forecast that by the second quarter of this year, the economy will be out of recession and we are going to see positive growth.

“The fact is that the CBN has the arsenal in its war chest to be able to sustain what is happening in the forex market. That is why the CBN recently introduced new FX windows for the Small and Medium-scale Enterprises to access forex through their banks with minimum documentation.”

He added, “There is also another initiative, the investor/exporter window, where it will be a market where prices will be determined by market forces, and it is a window that will allow investors to come in and trade their forex at a price they consider appropriate. Because of the convergence of rates, confidence is going to be built in the market so we are likely to see investors come in.

“In order to further build confidence, that is why we have this window that will enable them come in and improve the inflow of forex in the economy.”

According to the CBN director, the committee has agreed to allow banks to use five per cent of their profits after tax to provide equity funding for SMEs and agricultural companies.

He said, “The important thing is the economy and the committee also emphasised the issue of financing the SMEs and agriculture, using five per cent of the banks’ profits. That will help in fast-tracking the process of the economy coming out of recession.

“So, the banks are determined to contribute five per cent of their profits to be used in providing equity funding for agriculture and all small-scale businesses in the export drive.”

The Chief Executive Officer, Rand Merchant Bank, Mr. Michael Larbie, said the committee was committed to providing forex to end-users.

“In line with that, the banking community is committed to further ensuring that forex is available for all legitimate personal and business travels. As a result, the banks now are committed to having travel desks and cubicles in most of their branches where appropriate exchange rates will be duly published so that anyone that walks in and requires business travel allowance will get it,” Larbie explained.

The Managing Director, Access Bank Plc, Mr. Herbert Wigwe, said the committee also agreed to establish a central database to enable the banking industry to identify and remove suspected electronic fraudsters from the system.

This, he said, would lead to the reduction of e-banking and card frauds.

The Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria, Mr. Charles Kie, said the committee emphasised the need for all the banks to continue to support the economy in order to get it out of recession.

The Acting Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, said factors that drove the economy into recession were being addressed already.

OAP Freeze secures bail of arrested mother of 3, pays one year rent

An arrested mother of 3, who was jailed for one month by her landlady over rent, has been freed by Cool FM OAP Freeze, who secured her bail.

Daddy Freeze, also paid the lady’s one year rent, after she was whisked down to Olosan Police station in Mushin, where she spent over a month, because she couldn’t afford the bail of N50,000. The Cool FM OAP and his team, are also trying so hard to reunite the lady, who is also a widow with her kids, as they were taken into government custody.
Here’s what he wrote;

“This is Lateefa, a mother of 3. She was imprisoned for over a month wrongfully, by her landlady. –
The #FreeTheSheeple movement freed her from prison through our wonderful Barrister BUKKY, got the case against her thrown out of court. We went on to contribute towards her rent and paid for 1 year. Now we are uniting her with her children, who were taken into government custody.

This is what we do…. All the blogs report about us is negative. But while you are busy criticizing us, we are touching lives and freeing sheeple from yahoo boy pastors.

P.S the widow we contributed money for was so excited, she said the last time she saw the type of money we gave her was 10yrs ago. Her husband died leaving her with nothing 10 years ago… her 8yr son died a few months ago.. Don’t just comment on the internet, touch a life, it’s what we do! ~FRZ

Shocking: Stephanie Otobo exposed by Yvonne Ogiamien, her childhood friend

In this exclusive telephone chat with journalists, Miss Yvonne Ogiamien, reveals the character behind Miss Stephanie Otobo, the Canada based lady who has been blackmailing clergyman and president of Omega Fire Ministries worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman with claims of romance. Yvonne reveals some of the intimate secrets of Otobo, her life in Sapele before she relocated to Canada. Meanwhile, in a new video that has gone viral on the social media, four ladies claiming to be close friends of Stephanie Otobo, claimed that Otobo’s allegations are all lies and that she was known for her fake and indecent lifestyle…Excerpts

How long have you known Stephanie?

We were childhood friends but I travelled to Canada after I got married about 10 years ago but she came in here few years back.

How close are you two?

We were close enough that sometimes she stays over with my family here in Toronto.

You were? Are you no longer friends?

Certainly not! Not after all this mess.

Mess? Ok, we will get back to that. But do you know a little or few things about her private life?

Sure! We shared information up till when she was to travel to Nigeria in January, though I had my reservations about her lifestyle.

Did she at any time mention her relationship with Apostle Johnson Suleman?

Yeaaa! That was about 2015. She told me and a few other friends how she got the number of the preacher from one of the church members here in Toronto. How she called the man for prayers and also pleaded for financial help. She told us how generous the man was and how the man assisted her without ever meeting her.

Was that all, she told you?
That was all. She told me each time the man of God sent some money to her about two or three occasions with a stern warning that she should quit her way of life.

What do you have to say about the allegations by Stephanie that she was in a relationship with Apostle Johnson Suleiman?
Of course not! That ain’t possible! We were always watching the man and his preaching’s on YouTube uptill early this year. Can a girl be in a relationship with someone she hasn’t met? Maybe, she was obsessed with the man of God. I have known Stephanie since her days in Sapele. What I know for certain is that she is not new to controversies. At some point, I felt she was possessed because she was good at scamming and twisting stories with so much finesse. Stephanie would do anything for money.

Are you saying the allegations might be false?

If it were someone else, I would have said there can’t be smoke without fire. But in Stephanie’s world, there can be smoke without fire. This is why I can say on good authority that it is a fat lie because of her antecedent. I know her so so well. For example, Stephanie started courting controversies from as early as the age of 15. She came in here as a student, through a phony admission syndicate in America from where she migrated to Canada. That is Stephanie for you. She would go to any length to make ends meet, including blackmail and extortion.

Are you by chance inferring that the allegations on Apostle Johnson Suleman are false?

As much as I know, If Stephanie was ever in a relationship, I and our other friends would know. She will flaunt it. Not this type she now claimed she made good money from. £8,000, €10,000 etc? Stephanie made all that money and she is still squatting in Canada? How is that possible? We were all bemused to hear and read in the press that she lost her house and cars owing to Apostle Suleman’s failed promise to marry her. This is absolute falsehood and wickedness as Stephanie never had a house. The only time she had an apartment for a few months was when she lied to a lawyer last year that she was pregnant and the man hired a condo for her in Toronto. But when he found out that she was not pregnant, he ejected her. Is that the same house Apostle made her lose?

Can you describe Stephanie Otobo?

Stephanie is a smart girl. And a coarse one as such. She knows how to play her cards. And it is unfortunate that she took the game to a dangerous level by involving Apostle Johnson Suleman. I want to suspect she was looking for something from the man of God and it didn’t work out. Maybe she was obsessed about the man of God, who knows? If not, how would a woman be talking about having an amorous relationship with someone she hasn’t met? Only last year, Stephanie was sleeping with a man called Ola who was said to be genuinely in love with her until she messed him up. She allegedly took his money, promised to marry him but dumped him after breaking the relationship. In return, I gathered that the said Mr. Ola made a video of Stephanie, including clips of her stealing his money. The video was handed to the pastor of their church during testimony time prompting her to flee and stop attending the church. Before leaving town, she temporarily teamed with another lover and together they reportedly engaged in several scams, including Internet fraud. But the bubble burst when her partner was caught and jailed for fraud. Having acquired a negative reputation in Toronto, Stephanie moved to Vancouver where she topped her game by joining so many dating sites. It was also in that city she became a stripper.

But why do you think she is doing all these?

What I can say for certain is that Stephanie does not do anything except for the money. I know for sure that, that is what played out in this case. She probably saw an opportunity and wanted to grab it or was lured into it by some folks in Nigeria who didn’t like the Apostle’s face but it backfired, unfortunately. I am so ashamed on her behalf.

She just released a gospel song entitled “I depend on God”. Don’t you think she may have given her life to God?

Hahahahaha…what the world expected her to release was a confession video or a video of an open apology to the man of God and the body of Christ as a sign of repentance. The prayer of an unrepentant sinner is an abomination before God.

6 Practical Financial Tips For Single Guys

The average Nigerian dude (not necessarily the f*ckboy) wants to ball. You can’t really judge them either, because…you only live once. YOLO!
Monday to Thursday: you stay on the hustle, money must be made.

Fridays nights: back to back clubbing with the babes.

Saturdays: wedding and after party then lounge/drinking time with your bros.

Sundays: big boy brunch at Oriental and football time at the bar later in the day.

The lifestyle is the dream; however, except you have your own business or solid inheritance somewhere, this lifestyle cannot be sustainable -especially, if you are still a bachelor.

Even when they follow the best financial advice available (they work hard, spend less than they earn, save and invest) quite a percentage of single men still find they have to live pay cheque to pay cheque – with no savings.

Of course, this does not in any way imply that all the unattached men in Nigeria are flunking their finances or are in a hopeless position when it comes to money. Some men just face specific challenges, when it comes to managing their cash.

The state of the country’s economy plays a huge role in this dreary financial picture; as such, opting for just the basics when it comes to making financial changes may not be ideal.

Single dudes should consider taking on some of these hands-on money rules:

Rent must not exceed half of your monthly earnings
Yes, you want to live alone, have your own place and be independent, but you should not spend a fortune or run into debt renting an apartment. Ensure your monthly rent is not more than half of your total earnings per month. For instance, if you earn N100,000 per month ensure you do not rent a place that costs more than N25,000 per month. This means that you would be looking out for a space that would possibly cost you N300,000 per year.

It’s easy to get sold on the dream of emancipation from parents and total independence, but if it’s going to jack up your bills, it’s probably not a wise financial move. If you must rent a space, consider getting flatmates and move up from there.

South Korea rejects Trump demand it pays for missile system

South Korea’s government has brushed aside US President Donald Trump’s suggestion that it should pay for a $1bn missile defence system the two allies are installing in South Korea to guard against threats from North Korea.

The first components of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system have already been delivered and set up at a former golf course in South Korea – infuriating China – at a time of heightened tensions over Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programmes.

Top US officials have said THAAD will be operational “within days”.

“I informed South Korea it would be appropriate if they paid. It’s a billion-dollar system,” Trump said in an interview with the Reuters news agency.

“It’s phenomenal. It’s the most incredible equipment you’ve ever seen – shoots missiles right out of the sky,” said Trump. “And it protects them and I want to protect them. We’re going to protect them. But they should pay for that, and they understand that.”

The two countries have been in a security alliance since the 1950-53 Korean war, and more than 28,000 US troops are stationed in South Korea.

Seoul retorted that under the Status of Forces Agreement that governs the US military presence in the country, South Korea would provide the THAAD site and infrastructure while the US would pay to deploy and operate it.

“There is no change to this basic position,” South Korea’s defence ministry said in a statement.

The row comes with tensions high on the Korean peninsula following a series of missile launches by North Korea and warnings from the Trump administration that military action was an “option on the table”.

But earlier this week it said it would seek stronger sanctions against Pyongyang and held open the possibility of negotiations, with US Pacific Command chief Admiral Harry Harris saying it wanted to bring leader Kim Jong-un “to his senses, not to his knees”.

The White House also wants China to do more to rein in North Korea, but Beijing has been infuriated by the THAAD deployment, which it fears weaken its own ballistic capabilities and says upsets the regional security balance.

Social media commentators were derisive. “So he wants to start a war with North Korea and he wants South Korea to pay for it,” wrote one Twitter poster.

Al Jazeera’s Wayne Hay said that the THAAD system was controversial from the start but that Trump’s comments have “come out of the blue”.

“This is US equipment, it is being run by United States personnel, it is on South Korean land that has effectively been given to the United States,” said Hay. “So it is difficult to see how Donald Trump can get this one through.”

Hay said there had also been a negative response to Trump stating that he wants to renogiate or terminate a five-year old free trade pact with South Korea because of the deep trade deficit with Seoul.

South Korean car manufacturers expressed concern about Trump’s comments.

“Generally, the free trade agreement has worked well – trade has increased between the two countries, where we’ve seen trade decreasing generally around the world,” said Hay.

Read: Piers Morgan finished the Kardashians with this article

British journalist and TV personality, Piers Morgan has come hard for the Kardashians, especially Kim. Piers Morgan finished the Kardashians for real.

He says the week Kim hit rock bottom finally made him realize he no longer wish to keep up with her or any of the “greedy, cynical” Kardashian clan. Read below:

I’m done with Kim Kardashian.
And her ghastly family.
Done. Done. DONE.

I just can’t stomach the sight or thought of any of these talentless, publicity-crazed, unctuously self-absorbed, vacuous wastrels for a single moment longer.
Not Kim, not Kendall, not Kylie, not Kourtney, not Kris, not Caitlyn – not ANY of them.

This feeling of utter, skin-crawling anathema towards all things Kardashian and Jenner has been creeping up inside my intestines for a while but it crystallised itself today in a blazing eruption of irritation and contempt.
In the words of Peter Finch’s news anchor character Howard Beale in the movie Network: ‘I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!’

What tipped me over the edge? Kim’s pathetic new interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the world’s most simpering chat show host and chief celebrity sycophant.
Here was a true meeting of galactic level insincerity.

It was Kim’s first TV appearance since she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris last year, and she milked it like an over-eager farmhand in a field full of udder-bloated cows.
The tears rolled as Kim told an equally choked up Ellen: ‘I know it sounds crazy but I know this was meant to happen to me. I feel like I am such a different person. I feel like things happen in life to teach you things.’

Ellen handed over some tissues, her caring, sharing face belying what she was really thinking, which was ‘KERCHING! You keep crying baby, this is ratings gold!’
Kim announced she no longer wears jewellery, or posts photos of her cars, because she doesn’t want to draw attention to her wealth.

‘I was definitely materialistic before,’ she explained, in between her wailing sobs. ‘I’m so glad that my kids get this me, that this is who is raising my kids. I just don’t care about that stuff any more. I really don’t.’

For a second, I nearly believed her.
It would take a heart of stone not to see a mother weep as she talked about such a terrible experience and how it had reshaped her entire life.
But then I remembered it was Kim Kardashian we’re dealing with, so I went to her Twitter account to check how her new life of anti-materialism was going.

Her most recent three tweets all direct her 51 million followers to her ‘Kimoji’ merchandise website.
The No1 item, which is currently ‘SOLD OUT’, is her Ass Tray at $35.
That’s a cartoon image of her large naked bottom inside an ashtray.
Among other items for purchase is her Butt Pool Float at $98 that also features Kim’s naked bottom shaped like a swimming pool float.

Ms Kardashian is very proud of her bottom.
So much so that she’s spent the past week deliberately flaunting it for the paparazzi on a beach holiday with her female friends.
It’s been a deliberate marketing ploy to sell her bottom-related merchandise.

The only problem is that the real thing, as we have now seen, bares no relation to the perfectly proportioned, super-smooth, cellulite-free vision of glory she sells to the world via her Kimoji wares or the heavily-airbrushed photos she posts and flogs to magazines.
In other words, as with all things Kardashian these days, it’s one gigantic con trick. A façade aided and abetted by the world’s women’s magazine industry that wants us all to buy into the fakery and compel its readers to aspire to completely bogus body images with myriad expensive potions, creams and surgeries.

Other Kimoji merchandise includes hats and T-shirts with pro-drugs message like ‘Never Not High’ and ‘Lit Tie Dye rolling paper’.
Oh, and a peach heart emoji that says ‘PNP’. That’s a slang term used mainly by gay men on sex apps like Grindr to denote ‘Party’n’Play’. It means they are interested in having high-risk, often unprotected sex with strangers while taking drugs like methamphetamine and GHB.
On the hit reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim is always careful to maintain an abstemious image – no drugs and very little alcohol.
But it would seem that once she’s hooked her young fans into THAT image of nice, decent purity, she then urges them on her social media sites to spend big money on stuff actively promoting a very different lifestyle.

It’s hugely profitable, and hugely cynical.
For a while, I enjoyed the Kardashian ride; I interviewed Kim and her sister Kourtney for CNN in 2011 and they seemed nice girls who worked hard and were doing no real harm to anyone. Their overly pious critics seemed to miss the point – which was that there wasn’t really any point to them. They were just having fun.

As a result, I’d defend them vigorously against those who said they represented everything repellent about the fickle, artless world of Z-list reality television.
Then it all started to turn a bit darker and my sympathies went south too.
Nice girl Kim married bad boy rapper Kanye West and began posting profanely captioned nude photos of herself flipping the bird. By doing so, she crossed a line from harmless fun to something altogether more crass and unpleasant.

Particularly when she claimed it was being done as part of some kind of stand for ‘feminism and liberating empowerment for women’.
What absurd, disingenuous horses**t!
I’m not a prude and I couldn’t care less what people like Kim Kardashian want to expose of themselves in private, if they do so legally.

But when you have literally tens of millions of young female followers hanging on your every social media post, you surely have a great duty of care to send them the right messages?
For the world’s young girls to think the only way to get on in life as a woman is to strip naked in public and flip the bird is not just wrong, it’s dangerous.
Nor should they be encouraged to spend large amounts of money on accessories promoting the joy of drugs, when so many of them are still at school.
Kim Kardashian wants us to think she’s turned over a new leaf, that she’s renounced her old materialistic ways. That, as a mother of two young children herself, she has learned how to behave in a responsible fashion.
But she hasn’t.

The truth is that she’s now using her massive global platform to actively corrupt our kids.
And she doesn’t hesitate to aggressively exploit her own children as often as possible to further promote her brand through sites like Instagram, whilst pretending to prioritise their safety and interests.

The rest of her family have all followed suit, willingly, greedily complicit in the same ruthlessly commercial game.
I don’t find the Kardashian machine funny or harmless any more.
It’s grown ugly; very, very ugly.
Kim Kardashian’s now selling nudity, drugs, booze and high-risk sex to the youth of the world and making hundreds of millions of dollars in the process.
Do we really want someone like her to be the role model our young daughters look up to and want to emulate?
I don’t.

No, as I said at the start of this column, I’m done with Kim Kardashian and her ghastly family.
I want them gone from public life, expunged from the airwaves, thrown off the newsstands, and extinguished from the celebrity ether.
They’ve become a pitiful parody of stinking, sobbing hypocrisy that should no longer be encouraged or tolerated in civilised society.
It’s time to boot Kim Kardashian and her gigantic, surgically enhanced backside into the same obscurity from which she once crawled thanks to that infamous sex tape.

And I want you to join me in this campaign.
Again, back to the gloriously relevant words of Howard Beale:
‘You gotta say, “I’m a human being, goddammit! My life has value!” So get up out of your chairs, go to the window, open it, stick your head out and yell: “I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!”
I no longer want to keep up with the Kardashians.

Period.

Nor should you.

I didn’t see Man United’s Fellaini head-butt – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola refused to be drawn on suggestions from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho that Sergio Aguero was to blame for Marouane Fellaini’s red card in the Manchester derby.

Fellaini was sent off after appearing to head-butt City striker Aguero in the 84th minute of the goalless draw at the Etihad and now faces a three-match ban.

Mourinho claimed after the game that he had seen the Argentinean in the tunnel and that he had “no broken nose or broken head — his face is as nice as always.”

But Guardiola said the sending off had little impact as it came late in the match with City already well on top in the game.

“I’m not going to talk at my press conference about an action that was in the last minutes — it did nothing to change the game — so nothing,” he told a news conference.

“Nolito against Bournemouth, he was sent off for absolutely nothing — it was a three-game ban.

“In that situation, don’t talk to me, speak with Mike Riley or the referees. The decision is the referee’s not mine. I don’t won’t to talk about the referees — they take the decision speak with them.

“I didn’t see the action on TV, I was far away. I don’t like to see guys sent off. I would prefer Fellaini to stay on the pitch but I’m not going to analyse the game for that action.”

City dominated the match with 69 percent possession, 19 shots to United’s three and six attempts on target while United’s only effort on goal came after a miscued punch from goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

While the point keeps Guardiola’s side in the top four, it means the race for Champions League places remains extremely tight with six points between third-placed Liverpool and Arsenal in sixth.

“We have tried to monopolise the ball — a little bit Latin style. We played to win the game but we were not able to. It’s one point and the big fight will be on until the [last game at] Watford,” the City boss added. “Today it was much harder against a team who haven’t lost in 23 — it was not easy but we tried. It’s one point and the fight keeps going.

“The better result, of course, would have been to win the game. We have five games left, three at home and two away and we have to keep fighting.

“Leicester and Crystal Palace will not be easy — you’ve seen what they have done against Arsenal and Liverpool.

“We are going to try the way we have played tonight — creating many chances to score goals and hopefully we can qualify for Champions League.”

City lost keeper Bravo to a calf injury late in the game with Willy Cabellero coming on this place and Guardiola fears he may be out for the season.

But he was buoyed by another impressive performance from captain Vincent Kompany, who has now started City’s last three games and kept United danger man Marcus Rashford relatively quiet.

“He’s a central defender and we speak about duels with the striker — Kompany usually wins these duels,” Guardiola said. “That is why he is an outstanding defender.

“It is not easy against players like Rashford, who are so quick but he is a very intelligent player.”

Over ‘100,000 followers’ unfollows Kim Kardashian for misleading them

Kim Kardashian has lost over 100,000 Instagram followers following a huge backlash over un-airbrushed pictures of her bum that broke the internet this week.

The photos, you recall, were taken on her recent trip to Mexico and show Kim with cellulite on her world-famous rear. Before now, Kim was the fifth most popular celebrity on Instagram with almost 100 million followers, just behind Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.

While some think the pap shots might have been set up to generate even more publicity for the reality queen, others have said the pictures are a clear sign she’s been photoshopping all her images over the years to create an unrealistic picture of herself.

And for that, some fans have accused her of ‘being fake’ and ‘misleading’ them.

The mum-of-two was blasted on Twitter and Instagram with former fans declaring her ‘fake’.

“Absolutely unbelievable. Wake up and face reality. Photoshop is your best friend @KimKardashian,” one angry comment read.

An Instagram user told Kim that there was ‘nothing real’ about her.
Geegeelove1 wrote:

‘Kim you make me feel sick talking about your flawless body when you run to the plastic surgeon for everything. There is nothing real about you.’

Another joined in the chorus of criticism writing: ‘Nothing natural about years of botox’.

While one former fan, whose handle on Instagram is christian.telleria, wrote:

 ‘Your body is completely fake’.

Another fumed:

“And yet they want young ladies to look up to them. With such language they speak I wouldn’t allow my dog to follow them, I am UNFOLLOWING.”

Plenty other fans, however, have rushed to Kim’s defence, praising her curves and saying everyone has cellulite.

One fan tweeted: ” Kim Kardashian gets criticism when her bum is airbrushed & also gets criticism when her bum is un-airbrushed, this doesn’t make sense.”

Another said: “Bugs me how much ppl slate Kim K, just let her enjoy her bloody holiday w her naturally normal bum??”

A third said: “You know what? I’m gonna say it. Kim Kardashian looks beautiful without airbrushing. Her legs and butt look just like mine. Feels good man.”

And a fourth said: ” I am so sorry that you have to deal with people body shaming you all the time. You are so strong and so beautiful and anybody.

Gov. Fayose meets Nnamdi Kanu in Abuja court

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State was at the Federal High Court Abuja, on Tuesday, for the proceedings of the ongoing trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, and his co-accused.

Kanu and his co-accused were produced in court by prison officials at about 10.05a.m on Tuesday.

Governor Fayose was decked in red attire with a red cap typical of Igbo culture to match.

It was gathered that when Kanu arrived the courtroom, his attention was drawn by his lawyers to Fayose who was said to be waiting for him.

Fayose stood up and had a hug with the Biafra nation agitator.

After exchanging pleasantries, Fayose moved back to his seat while Kanu took a seat on the other side of the aisle.

After some minutes the governor crossed over the aisle to take a seat beside Kanu.

They had a brief chat before Fayose returned to his original seat.

The governor is still seated in the courtroom while the trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako, is being awaited to deliver her reserved ruling.

EU toughens Brexit stance ahead of summit

The EU has hardened its position on Brexit talks ahead of a key summit, making new demands on financial services, immigration and Britain’s exit bill, a document showed Tuesday.

The leaders of the other 27 countries will stress that Britain will be liable for costs for at least a year after it leaves in 2019, according to the draft negotiating guidelines seen by AFP.

They insist that Britain’s huge finance industry must also stick to EU rules if it wants easy access to European Union markets.

And Britain should give EU citizens permanent residency after living there for five years, they say, in a challenge for the British government which has vowed to limit immigration.

European diplomats agreed the changes on Monday at a meeting with the bloc’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier, ahead of Saturday’s Brussels summit where EU leaders will approve “red lines” for two years of tough negotiations.

The leaders are also expected to have a “wider debate on Brexit and the upcoming talks” at the summit, a European source told AFP.

The EU’s language has notably toughened from EU President Donald Tusk’s first draft, issued two days after British Prime Minister Theresa May triggered the divorce process on March 29.

The new harder stance comes as May prepares to hold talks with European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker and Barnier in London on Wednesday.

The section on Britain’s divorce bill — estimated by EU sources at 60 billion euros — now adds a mention of “issues resulting from” the bloc’s seven-year budget from 2014 to the end of 2020.

Previously it only mentioned costs up to Britain’s withdrawal in 2019, but the new version spells out the EU belief that Britain is liable for all costs it signed up to while a member.

Britain’s prized financial services industry is also targeted, with changes to the draft making it clear that arrangements for it will not necessarily be tied to any future trade deal with the EU.

Instead the City of London must “respect (the EU’s) regulatory and supervisory regime and standards and their application” if it wants to do business in Europe.

The EU has meanwhile made a top priority of protecting the rights of three million European citizens living in Britain and one million Britons living in Europe, who currently can work and live anywhere they choose in the EU.

But the latest draft adds a new demand for EU citizens to have “the right to acquire permanent residence after a continuous period of five years of legal residence” — a move that is likely to be opposed by London.

How actress made Stella Damasus cry on her birthday

Stella Damasus

Among the tons of birthday wishes that former Nollywood’s best, Stella Damasus received on Monday, April 24, one stood out – it brought tears to her eyes.

Damasus had turned a year older and it was the perfect day for actress Kate Henshaw to send her an invitation for truce – ‘old beef has passed away’ message.

The two, who used to be friends, had gone their separate ways after a brawl severed what was left of their relationship.

The beef that turned them against each other was believed to have stemmed from when they, at different times, dated gospel singer Sammie Okposo, whose career was at its peak, with many women at his beck and call.

Kate took to Stella’s Instagram page on Monday, acknowledging that with old age comes maturity and a zero stomach for frivolities.

“The older one gets, the more you do away with frivolous things. We have had our share of “battles”..yes but nevertheless we have come a long way. Through the highs and lows. The past is behind us,” Henshaw wrote.

In her response, a teary Damasus admitted to being ‘childish’ when they were at war with each other.

“You just brought tears to my eyes. I love you so much and I know that deep down you know. You are right. I have also been silly and childish but thank God for growth and maturity. You have been the most supportive and most caring. You go above and beyond for everyone else. I remember when we had an issue long ago, you still came to Asaba for my dad’s burial…”,the emotional birthday girl replied.

Damasus has since relocated to the United States where she lives with her husband, Daniel Ademinokan, a movie director and ex-husband of actress Doris Simeon.

Chris Attoh finally talks about alleged “marital crisis” with wife

Ghanaian actor, Chris Attoh, has finally debunked reports which alleged that he’s at the center of a marital crisis with wife and actress Damilola Adegbite. The actor who had a chat with KMJ on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, said his wife “is wonderful,” and “she is currently in London. She just launched her Alpha Woman project,” which helps to empower women.

The reports was almost believed to be true, after Chris posted several photos of his wife on social media, wishing her a happy second wedding anniversary on February 14, but Damilola failed to respond or do same.

When asked about the numerous divorce reports, Chris said;

“I don’t hear them, I don’t read them. I’m too focused, I can’t be too bothered with all these… what is important is in front of me.”
He also disclosed that he got a perfect response from his wife on their 2nd wedding anniversary;

“I got my response. The response doesn’t have to be on Instagram. I remember speaking to her that evening…” because I was in South Africa then, he stated.

He observed that their busy schedules do keep them apart but that hasn’t affected their marriage.

“Because of what we do we try to have time for each other as often as we can. It’s tough because sometimes I might be away for two, three months but that’s usually the interval. When she can come, she comes, when I can go, I go…”

In the awake of the divorce reports, it was rumoured that Chris’ family, particularly his sisters, were not in support of the marriage to the Nollywood actress but he refuted the reports quizzing “why will there be anything like that?”

Pakistan hangs 4 hardcore terrorists

Pakistani army said four hardcore terrorists involved in “committing heinous offenses relating to terrorism,” were hanged on Tuesday.

An army statement said the terrorists were convicted on the charges of killing innocent civilians, attacking armed forces of Pakistan and law enforcement agencies.

The terrorists were tried by military courts and were executed at a prison in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

All the convicts were active members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, a statement from the army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, said.

The convicts admitted their offences before the magistrates and the trial court.

The military courts were established for the speedy trial of the terrorists after the deadliest attack on an army public school in Peshawar in December, 2014.

Nearly 150 people, mostly students, were killed in the Taliban claimed attack.

Last month, the parliament approved a constitutional amendment to revive military courts for two more years.

The two-year term of the military courts expired in January and the treasury and opposition benches joined hands to pass a constitutional amendment for a two-year extension.

How Militants kill three policemen, four others in Ogun state

Militants kill three policemen: Three policemen and four residents of the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State lost their lives during encounters with some gunmen suspected to be militants. It was learnt that the three policemen, attached to the Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad, lost their lives last Thursday after the gunmen abducted a Chinese expatriate. The operatives had engaged the gunmen in a shootout when the three policemen were killed. Another resident was also hit by a stray bullet and died on the spot.

More..

The assailants on Friday attacked the home of a businessman, identified as Chief Rafiu Daramola, where they reportedly carted away N4.7m.

They were said to have shot dead three residents while escaping from the scene.

A community leader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the three policemen and one resident were killed in Odi Omi, a boundary community between Lagos and Ogun states.

He said,

“Last week Thursday, the militants kidnapped a Chinese expatriate. As they were leaving with their victim, the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad engaged them in a gun battle. The gunmen, however, shot dead three policemen and an indigene. The corpses were later removed and deposited in a morgue by the police.”

Around 8pm on Friday, the militants attacked the home of the businessman in the Iwopin community.

A family member of the victim said the suspects entered the house through the bathroom and ceiling.

He said:

“Our father had gone to turn on the generator when the men entered the house. Some of them entered through the bathroom and others came in through the ceiling.

“They gathered all his wives and children together and asked for our phones, which we surrendered to them. They asked for our father and searched everywhere for him.

“When they could not find him, they asked for where the safe was. They broke into the room where he kept the safe and damaged it. They took N4.7m and left.”

The money were proceeds of sales from the bakery and filling station owned by the businessman.

It was gathered that there was no bank in the community due to the activities of the gunmen, who usually move around in groups in the day time.

The men were driving back, their operational vehicle broke down and efforts to make it work were abortive.

A resident said the gunmen abandoned the bus and trekked back into the community. He said:

“The community is usually deserted from 8pm when most residents will be on bed. As a result, there was no vehicle for them to hijack as a getaway.

“They trekked back and started shooting continuously from around 1am till the early hours of Saturday. The three victims heard the gunshots and came out to know what was happening. But they fell into the hands of the gunmen who shot them dead.”
