Igbo will never be President of Nigeria – MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, on Tuesday declared that an Igbo man would never become Nigeria’s President.

In a statement signed by MASSOB leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, entitled ‘We insist on Biafra through non-violence, not Igbo presidency’, the secessionist group berated Igbo leaders, describing them as ‘political slaves’ who have no chance of ruling the country.

Leading Igbo politicians are nursing strong hopes that the presidency would be zoned to the South-East in 2023, and a former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, recently suggested that that the Igbos should run for the office in 2019.

But MASSOB described expectations that an Igbo man would become the country’s President in 2019 or 2023 as mere wishful thinking.

“The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra has declared that an Igbo man may not be President of Nigeria again because Igbo leaders are political slaves in Nigeria.

“Even 2019 and 2023 will come and go, an Igbo man will not be President of Nigeria.

“We insist on Biafra actualization and restoration through non violence, not Igbo presidency,” the group said in the statement, which was made available to journalists in Enugu.

2Baba donates N3.5Million to IDPs. (Photo)

2Baba Donates to IDPs: Nigerian music mogul, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, on Monday, February the 27th, presented a cheque of N3.5million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lagos. Speaking at the presentation, the mogul said that he was particularly touched when he visited camps of the Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in the North-East.

He called on other well-meaning Nigerians to come all out and support the International organisation in its effort at protecting the millions of Nigerians in the various camps.

“The conditions I met the internally displaced persons, when I visited their various camps were terrible. They were really terrible,” he said.
“The 2Face Foundation has, therefore, decided to enter into partnership with the UNHCR to see how we can help put smiles on the faces of these persons. My foundation is today presenting this cheque to the UNHCR to support it in its operations of alleviating the sufferings of these IDPs,” he added.

In her remark, the UNHCR’s Acting Country Representative to Nigeria, Ms Brigitte Mukango-Eno, commended 2Face for the humanitarian gesture, adding that her Agency currently needed public support for its operations in the North East.

Mukango-Eno, who was represented UNHCR’s External and Donor Relations Officer, Mr Hanson Tamfu, said that the activities of Boko Haram in the North- East had overstretched the agency’s financial base.

“We sincerely want to express the gratitude of the UNHCR to 2Face. This is a right step toward our private sector following. Over these years, it has become important for us, as an organisation, to depend on the private sector, for us to be able to meet our responsibilities.

2Face has scored a very important goal by discovering the UNHCR Office within the UN system. We want to use this opportunity to appeal to other private Nigerians and philanthropists to emulate this gesture by the 2Face Foundation in alleviating the conditions of the IDPs in the North East,” she said.

According to the PUNCH, family members, friends and senior government officials are finding it difficult to access Buhari.

The President’s nephew, Mamman Daura, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Domestic Affairs, Sarki Aba, Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and the Personal Assistant to the President, Tunde Sabiu are reportedly controlling who speaks to him.

However, the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and First Lady, Aisha Buhari have unhindered access to Buhari. Any other person must get approval from one or more of the four aides.

“The First Lady is not with him permanently in London, which should normally not be the case. She has had a few clashes with the cabal and she is not happy that they are also firmly in control in London.

“That’s why she goes and comes. She is not happy with the atmosphere over there,” a source told the newspaper.

Another source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “The names you have are accurate and they are the ones controlling access to the President in London, even in Nigeria. Some ministers, aides and service chiefs tried to talk to the President on the phone, but they turned them down.

“The few people that have seen the President only saw him because they agreed to it. If they didn’t, it would never have happened, apart from Governor Amosun, who everyone knows is one of Buhari’s best friends.”

I won’t receive salary until workers are paid – Governor Rotimi Akeredolu

The Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has vowed that he will not collect any salary until all the workers in the state’s civil service are paid their salaries.

He appealed to the doctors and nurses who are currently on strike to end their industrial action and embrace dialogue with his government.

Akeredolu stated this in Akure, the Ondo State capital, while formally meeting with the workers in the state civil service, on Monday.

In his maiden address to the workers, the governor said all the issues relating to the payment of their salaries would top the agenda of his administration.

He disclosed that a committee would be set up by the government to address how the backlog of salaries would be paid and how to move the state forward.

He said, “I am aware of your pains and agony. I feel your pains and what you are going through, and I can see your sufferings. I am surprised that you are still able to put up these smiles without seven months’ salaries. No doubt, a labourer deserves his wages.

“A committee will soon be set up to address this salary issue. We are set to move forward and at the end of the day, we will all win. Let us join hands to work together for the development of this state and I can assure you that with God on our side, we shall scale all obstacles to make Ondo great.”

BREAKING: Banky W’s lekki home gutted by fire

A house located along Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos where popular singer, Banky W, lives has been destroyed by fire. The fire was believed to have started around 6am. One of his neighbours said that the fire at his lekki home was caused by a faulty air conditioner.

A resident told Punch that, “The fire started around 6am and all of us came out to assist Banky in putting out the fire. However, Fire service officials arrived around 7.30.

“So many items were destroyed including Banky’s awards.”

Fire service personnel got there over one hour late, hence they couldn’t save much.

Earlier, we reported of the singer cum actor’s Lekki house being set on fire – he has now, on his Instagram shared what happened and how he’s grateful to be alive.

He shared the photo above with the caption:

So there’s good news and bad news. The good news is… I’m thanking God that I’m alive to give the bad news as a testimony. Bad news is…
I was laying awake in bed at about 6am , and I just started smelling smoke. Stood up to shut off my tv and ac and realized it was coming from outside my door. Opened it to see the whole stairway was filled with huge gusts of black smoke/soot, and a fire was burning stuff downstairs. The smoke was so much I couldn’t get down past it to see the source of the flames. Rushed back into my room and climbed down from the 2nd floor balcony with my dog… and then got help from the amazing workers and neighbours who helped me put out the flames.
Turns out the ac in the living room had caught fire.. I know a lot of ppl have been trying to call and I appreciate it. Maybe the fire burnt some of the network in the house because I can’t receive calls LOL , but instead of calling to say sorry pls just maybe say a prayer and thank God with me.

Thank God I was awake to smell the smoke. Thank God we caught it early enough and the damage wasn’t so bad.. it basically burnt some of the stuff that was around it. So awards, portraits, and some small electronics. But thank God, Duke and I are alive and well. We only had to form James Bond and climb down from the top floor balcony LOL Thank God for my neighbors and the amazing workers in and around the compound for helping us escape via the balcony, helping put out the fire, and helping with the aftermath/cleaning.

Thank God for life. And I’m not even upset.. I’m just grateful for life and health and for the grace and mercy of God on my life. I figure I’m about to have the best year ever so the devil tried to throw a tantrum. But not today Satan. Not today, not ever. Now sit back and watch me be great. By God’s grace.Amen. God bless you all.

Good News! Naira gains more as CBN pumps in $180M (Read)

Naira gains: In less than one week, the naira has gained over N85 against the dollar – thanks to the increased liquidity in the foreign exchange market.

The currency exchanged for N430 to the greenback yesterday at the parallel market. It was N460 to the dollar at the weekend.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday released $100million into the wholesale forwards segment of the market and $80million into the banks specifically for the settlement of dollar demand for school fees, medicals and Personal Travel
Allowance (PTA), among others.

CBN spokesman Isaac Okorafor, in a release, said that its commitment to providing enough forex for legitimate business remained unshaken, pointing out that it would do all that is required to ensure the steady supply of forex to the market.

Naira’s appreciation has raised hopes that the naira/dollar exchange rate may well be on a permanent journey to the N300 to the dollar predicted by some analysts in the past.

The apex bank last week rekindled the forex market by releasing $500million to be accessed through the Deposit Money Banks to fund school fees, Personal travel Allowance and medical bills.

The CBN had maintained that much of the dollar demand had been a bubble created by speculators and hoarders of the greenback, warning market players and keepers of dollars to make hay and sell their holdings to avoid heavy losses.

Federal government set to create 350,000 job opportunities for graduates in 2017

The Federal Government is set to employ additional 350,000 unemployed graduates in 2017 under the N-Power Volunteer Corps, a component of the government’s Social Investment Programmes. The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. Punch reports that Akande said President Muhammadu Buhari has requested appropriation of N157.75bn in the 2017 budget estimates for the N-Power scheme.

Federal government set to create 350,000 job opportunities for graduates in 2017

Akande said: “350,000 unemployed graduates more would be hired and trained, alongside 50,000 non-graduates youths to be engaged as artisans and in other creative ventures.”

Akande said that under the N157.75bn also, a sum of N4.5bn has been earmarked for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programme to support young Nigerians in building skills in those disciplines.

Akande noted that the SIP budget proposals for 2017 are currently being discussed this week at the National Assembly and urged Nigerians to expect more this year especially in the area of implementation as virtually all of the SIPs are now undergoing different stages of implementation.

He said: “While we were able to engage 200,000 unemployed graduates last year, we will do 350,000 more this year.”

Akande also disclosed that about N75bn has been allocated for the National Homegrown School Feeding Programme in the 2017 Budget.

He added that N112.2bn has been allocated to the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme aimed at providing interest-free loans to up to 1.2million market men and women, traders, artisans, youths and farmers.

Meanwhile, about 5,000 participants in the federal government social intervention scheme N-Power received their first salaries.

The salaries were paid directly to the bank accounts of the participants on Thursday, February 16.

Son of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali said he was detained by immigration officials at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Florida because he’s a Muslim.

Muhammad Ali Jr., along with his mother, Khalilah Camacho-Ali were returning to Florida from Jamaica after speaking at a black history event. They were retrieving their bags at baggage claim, when an official pulled them aside.

In an interview with CNN, the 44-year-old American citizen, who was born in Philadelphia said, “He asked me, ‘what is your name?’ Which I didn’t think nothing of that. He said, ‘OK, now, what is your religion?’ And I said, ‘Muslim, I’m a Muslim.’ And I thought to myself, that’s kind of odd. He asked about my religion, and I’m traveling back into the country from where I came from?”

Ali Jr. said the immigration official questioned him in separate room from his mother, Camacho-Ali for nearly two hours. “They asked me, where was I born and what my religion was, where did I get the name from,” Camacho-Ali said.

According to Camacho-Ali, she was released after she showed the official a photo of herself with her then ex-husband, Muhammad Ali. “I figured, maybe if I show I’m really Muhammad Ali’s ex-wife, they would believe me and make it less of a problem,” she said.

583 people died on March 27, 1977, when two Boeing 747 planes crashed into each other at the airport in Tenerife, Spain. It’s regarded as one of the deadliest accidents in the history of aviation. His words, “The prevalence of HIV is highest in the South Africa region where it is about 10 percent and South Africa has 18 percent followed by the East Africa bloc where prevalence rate is between 5 and 8 percent but West Africa overall has the lowest prevalence rate while Nigeria has about 3.4 percent.

“But Nigeria is a large country such that 3.4 percent in actual number means that about 3 million people are living with HIV in the country. In the whole world, Nigeria has the second largest number of people living with HIV.”

Lutung however said the AHF’s vision of global AIDS control, the epidemic can be controlled if new infections are reduced drastically through the current number of strategies and modules being used as combination prevention.

The Africa’s Bureau Chief stressed further that the foundation had existed for 30 years in 13 African countries including Nigeria which is only five years old in its service.

Commenting, Country Programme Manager of AHF, Dr. Adetayo Towolawi, intimated that the foundation had committed more than N25 million to four new projects in Benue which included the building of new structures and rehabilitation of existing clinics donated to Daudu, Agasha, Gbajimba and Agan communities in different local government areas of the state.

Twitter user begs Donjazzy for N95K tuition fee – Donjazzy replies [See Tweets]

Donjazzy replies: A Twitter user this morning took to the platform to plead with Don Jazzy for financial assistance, telling him that he was about to be expelled from school for not paying his tuition fees.

In usual Don Jazzy fashion, he replied the fan, asking him how much he owed the school.

The user was quick to take advantage of the opportunity he saw coming and told the Don that the fee per session is N95K and he was owing for two sessions, that sums the amount he’s asking for up to N190K. Don Jazzy has asked him to send his account details.

Recall that in December of last year, the Mavin boss gave N250,000 to a woman who asked him for money on Twitter. So if the previous record of Don Jazzy is anything to go by, the young man will definitely be smiling to the bank soon.
