Failed Campaign Promises: Nigerian Wailers List 81 Broken Promises Of President Buhari

FAILED CAMPAIGN PROMISES – As Nigeria celebrates the 2017 Democracy Day, a pressure group called Nigerian Wailers, has registered its displeasure over the performance of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, especially based on his popular but failed campaign promises. The group listed eighty-one failed campaign promises of the government and as a result, passed a vote of no confidence on President Buhari. This, the Nigerian Wailers explained, was as a result of the failure of the government to execute the campaign promises it made to Nigerians after spending two years in office.

A statement signed by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the group, Fasipe Oluyemi, said Buhari’s government, which had given hope on many positive promises during the period leading up to the election, had so far produced results which are far below the expectations of Nigerians. “We are aware of President Buhari’s ill health and how badly it has affected governance in the country. We hereby call on Mr. President to resign from office on health grounds. “The country is in a very bad shape and cannot afford a part-time or invincible President. “Furthermore, we urge the National Assembly to do the needful if President Buhari is unable to resign by himself by impeaching him. “The country should not be put on hold because of one citizen”, the Nigerian Wailers added.

Below are the 81 failed campaign promises as listed by the group.

1. Public declaration of assets and liabilities.

2. State and community policing.

3. Ban on all government officials from seeking medical care abroad.

4. Implementation of the National Gender Policy, including 35% of appointive positions for women.

5. Revival of Ajaokuta steel company.

6. Generation, transmission and distribution of at least 20,000 MW of electricity within four years and increasing to 50,000 MW with a view to achieving 24/7 uninterrupted power supply within 10 years.

7. Empowerment scheme to employ 740,000 graduates across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

8. Establishment of a free-tuition and scholarship scheme for pupils who have shown exceptional aptitude in science subjects at O/Levels to study ICT-related courses.
