Ismaila Olalekan, a truck driver, who allegedly stole two tyres of his vehicle worth N168,000, was on Monday released on a bail of N100,000 on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court. The Nation reports that, Olalekan, 50, a resident of Railway line, Mushin in Lagos, was arraigned for stealing which contravened Sections 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The accused stole two tyres of a truck registered as XB 191 EKY valued at N168,000, property of Supreme Waste Management, Prosecutor Donjor Perezi said.
Perezi insisted that the accused committed the offence on May 21 at Old Lagos State Government Secretariat, Ikeja.
“The accused, attached to Supreme Waste Management Company as a truck driver, absconded with the truck for two months, removed and and sold two tyres from the truck.
“He, however, sold the tyres without the consent of the management of the company and converted the money to personal use.”
The prosecutor said the management reported the case to the police which led to the arrest of the accused.
The truck driver denied the charge and was granted a bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, adjourned the case until Sept. 26 for mention.
